Do you like what I’ve done with the place?

Maybe it was because I spent yesterday evening chatting, eating, and drinking wine with seven fascinating visual artists. Maybe it was noticing the swelling leaf buds on my neighbor’s lilac tree, a sure sign that spring has finally sprung on the Canadian prairies. Or maybe it was just time for a change.

I’ve run the theme Highwind on my blog since 2013. I’ve had fellow bloggers and readers comment that they like its clean, simple lines and readable text. From time to time, though, especially as new WordPress themes are announced, I’ve browsed the theme page, previewing how my content would look in other visual formats. None caught my eye until I got Magpie Learner to try on Cubic.

Why did I find it attractive? First of all, the home page features a photo from each post, making it a more attractive entry to the blog itself. I was able to keep my site logo (yes, he is a magpie for those who’ve wondered – but he’s a rarer albino magpie, and I’ve grown quite fond of him). The font in the posts is still easy to read. And, not to sound too mysterious, but the theme change likely foreshadows some other renos I’m planning to the focus of Magpie Learner in the coming months.

But I’d like to hear from those of you who’ve become familiar with my previous Magpie Learner format. At the risk of sounding like your annoying optometrist, testing your eyesight for new glasses, do you like the look of Cubic more, less, or just the same? istock_000011228243_smallcrop.jpg

  1. Would love to let you know and am eager to see the new look but I read mostly on my smartphone in the Reader, where blogs all look the same unless you click on the Show Webpage button, which I did, but found the page doesn’t load. A first, in my experience, and don’t know why? Will give feedback when I can get to a computer!

  2. Yay! Glad you had fun at the potluck – it was a good time:) i’m looking forward to future get-togethers now that bbq season is around the corner!

  3. Oh yes, I like this new look very much. As a previous reader commented, I mostly read on my mobile device, which strips everything, so I can’t remember the old style. Regardless, I think the new homepage is very accessible and eye-catching.
